Player rankings hurt kids and serve no purpose other than to make money for scouting services and media outlets.  They do that by driving public interest in comparing kids to other kids. Shame on all those media and scouting services that engage in “Rankings”. They teach the wrong mentality to parents and kids. But they sure do sell a lot of subscriptions and make a lot of money.

As a coach it was always important to me to try and teach kids how to “compete against yourself”.  Essentially to learn that God has given everybody a unique set of skills and abilities, and that every player should strive to be the best they can based on those God given skills and abilities.

My advice to young people. Place no value in rankings. Instead focus on becoming the best player and person you can based on the gifts God has given you.
